Hawaii SR22 Insurance Quotes & SR22 Information
In Hawaii the minimum period required to carry and maintain an SR22 insurance policy is three (3) years. However this period could be more or less depending on your offense.
Is it just a singular offense, with no prior convictions of any kind? Or is it a subsequent offense with multiple prior convictions?
These factors alone will not determine the length of an SR22 filing period. Still it is always a good idea to talk with an experience attorney in your area to help you with your case; as they are familiar with this process and the required procedures to make the action being taken against you more understandable.

What happens at an administrative hearing?
After all parties have been sworn in the Administrative Hearing Judge will begin to take testimony from the officer on the evidence that he or she has against you. This will also be when the Administrative Hearing Judge will decide if proper procedures were conducted during the police stop.
Once the officer is done giving testimony you and your attorney (if you hired one) will have the opportunity to rebut the evidence against you and present any witnesses you may have in your favor.
Important: Prior to an administrative hearing you will need to subpoena any witnesses you may have in your favor.
After all the evidence and testimonies have been given the proceeding will close and the Administrative Hearing Judge will make a decision on whether to uphold the actions against you or suspend them.
Normally this decision will be in writing and mailed to you. This notification varies from state to state, so please ask the Administrative Hearing Judge how this decision is rendered and how long it will take.

How do I renew my drivers license in Hawaii?
After your suspension, revocation, or cancellation period is satisfied and you have completed, if any, alcohol or drug treatment classes you will need to visit the nearest driver license station or satellite City Hall (Fort Street Mall, Hawaii Kai, and Pearl Ridge) to apply for a renewal.
Depending on your offense you may be required to get an SR22 Insurance policy for the minimum period of three years, you may be required to pay a license reinstatement fee and possibly be required to take an eye exam. Additionally you may be required to have an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) installed in your vehicle as a condition of your license reinstatement.
What is Hawaii’s Ignition Interlock Device Program?
After extensive research to find the best available information on Ignition Interlock Devices in Hawaii it comes down to a great lack of information to pass on.
Governor Linda Lingle has signed a bill into law (HB3377 SD2 CD1) in 2008 outlining an Ignition Interlock Program that is to be implemented. Given that there is little credible information available please ask the attorney you are working with or contact an attorney in your area to get the latest information available, as it may change faster than we can update it.
What if I fail to maintain my SR22 insurance policy?
Any lapse in your insurance coverage is not advised, especially when you are required by law to carry and maintain an SR22 policy. Possible penalties may include:
- Immediate License suspension/revocation/cancellation
- Additional fees (as this lapse in coverage is considered a new offense)
- Jail time (depends on the original conviction)
- A longer SR22 period than you had originally, and you may be required to start the mandatory minimum SR22 period from the beginning.
How do I avoid a lapse in my coverage?
We strongly recommend paying your SR22 policy premium 2-3 months in advance, if you can. If 2-3 months is not possible try 2-3 weeks in advance. We can’t stress this enough do not let your SR22 insurance policy lapse for any reason. If you are having problems paying your premium on time contact your insurance provider and ask if they can help.
