Kentucky SR22 Insurance Quotes & SR22 Information
If a driver in Kentucky is convicted of, for example, the offense of no insurance. The Kentucky DMV has the ability to suspend, cancel, or revoke that driver's license and that driver may be required to get an SR22 insurance policy for the minimum period of three (3) years before a license reinstatement will take place.
Additional crimes that may require a driver to get an SR22 insurance policy:
- Operating a motor vehicle without a valid drivers license
- DUI (Driving Under the Influence)
- Multiple traffic offenses (too many within a certain time period)
- Racing a motor vehicle
- Negligent homicide
There are more offenses that may require the driver to file for an SR22 insurance policy. As well as additional factors, such as a driver's motor vehicle record, that could determine if a driver will need to get an SR22 policy or not. For more information please contact the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet or a Driver Licensing field office.
What happens at a Kentucky administrative hearing?
You will need to schedule your administrative hearing as soon as possible. In some cases you may have only 7-10 days to do so.
After your administrative hearing is scheduled it would be a good time to contact an experienced attorney in your area to discuss your case with you and what evidence to present in your favor at your administrative hearing. This could include any witnesses, documents, video, etc.
Remember: Attorneys offer a free initial consultation to discuss your case.
Don't forget: You will need to subpoena any witnesses prior to your administrative hearing.
Before the administrative hearing will begin all the people involved with your case will be sworn in by an Administrative Hearing Judge.
Once the swearing in is completed the Administrative Hearing Judge begins by hearing the testimony of the Officer involved in your case and viewing the evidence he or she has against you.
After the officer has completed his or her testimony, you and your attorney will have a chance to present any evidence and witnesses you may have in your favor to refute the evidence of the Officer.
The administrative hearing will close after all the evidence has been presented and testimonies have been given. Now the Administrative Hearing Judge will decide on whether to uphold the actions against you or to rescind (cancel) them entirely.
If the Judge upholds the actions against you those actions will start immediately, however if the Judge rules in your favor your driving privileges will be reinstated.

How do I renew my drivers license in Kentucky?
After a driver has completed any jail sentence, and/or any period of driving privilege suspension, revocation, or cancellation, a driver can start the process of getting their license reinstated.
A good place to start is by requesting a copy of your driving history to see what actions are actually on your driving record and to check the status of your drivers license.
You will also need to find out if you need an IID installed in your vehicle and if you are required to get an SR22 Insurance policy and for how long you will need to maintain it.
You may be able to reinstate your license online, however if your reinstatement is not accepted online you may need to visit a Kentucky Drivers License Field Office to complete your license reinstatement.

What if I fail to maintain my SR22 insurance policy?
When a lapse in an SR22 insurance policy occurs by law the insurance provider has to notify the DMV. As a result of this notification a driver's license can get suspended without much of a notice. On top of that a driver may face:
- More out of pocket fees to get a license reinstated again
- An additional and/or extended time period that a driver has to carry SR22 insurance
- A worse case scenario of a jail sentence
How do I avoid a lapse in my coverage?
The easiest way to avoid any lapses in coverage, is to pay the SR22 policy premium as far in advance as your budget will allow. We recommend at least 2 months in advance.
