Mississippi SR22 Insurance Quotes & SR22 Information
In Mississippi the minimum period for carrying an SR22 insurance policy is three (3) years, however this period could be made shorter by a favorable motor vehicle record.
On the other hand this period could be made longer if your driving record has past convictions and shows the possibility of being a repeat offender.
Convictions that may require a driver to file for and manage an SR22 policy can include but are not limited to:
- Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of drugs and/or alcohol
- Driving on a suspended or canceled (revoked) license with or without insurance
- Hit and Run
- Underage 21 Drinking and Driving
These are just a few offenses, if convicted, that may require a driver to purchase and maintain an SR22 insurance policy for thee (3) years.
If you have additional questions about your driving record please contact a Mississippi DPS Office near you or if a recent offense has you concerned about the possibility of having to file for an SR22 insurance policy please contact a Mississippi DUI Attorney for more information.

What if I do not keep my Mississippi SR22 insurance policy current?
As with any insurance it is not a good idea to be without it, especially SR22 insurance. If you fail to keep your policy current your insurance provider will notify the DPS and most likely suspend your driving privileges (license) without much of a notice to you.
This action against your license can cause other possibilities such as driving on a suspended license and driving without a properly insured vehicle. These additional actions will require you to be pulled over by a Police Officer, however they will require more out of pocket fees. You will have to pay again to get your license reinstated and there is a chance that you may be required to start the mandatory SR22 insurance period from the beginning.
The above are just two examples of what could happen if your insurance policy in not kept current. Some additional actions could include:
- A court sentence of jail time.
- Your vehicle being impounded. This will require more fees to get it back.
- A suspension of your motor vehicle registration.
- If you were involved in an accident without insurance you may be required to compensate any victims that required hospitalization.
Our best advice would be to never let your insurance lapse for any reason, the penalties associated with it are just too numerous and costly to take that chance.
What steps can I take to avoid a lapse in my Mississippi SR22 insurance coverage?
The best step to take is to pay your SR22 insurance premium 2 months in advance, if you can. If you cannot pay 2 months in advance due to budget constraints pay as far in advance as you can.
Some other helpful steps would be to:
- Have an online insurance company, like us, do the work of finding you multiple SR22 insurance policy quotes within just a few minutes of entering your zip code. This way you can find a policy that fits your budget so you can avoid a lapse in coverage.
- Call your current insurance provider to see if they can help. Advising them on any changes or problems that might result in a late payment can save a lot of hassles later on.
