Nebraska SR22 Insurance Quotes & SR22 Information
Nebraska has a minimum 3 year period where a driver may be required to carry an SR22 insurance policy. This period may be longer or shorter depending on an individuals driving history and what other circumstances, if any, were involved at the time of the incident.
Additionally there are some offenses, if convicted, that may require a driver to file and maintain an SR22 insurance policy.
- DUI (Driving Under the Influence)
- The accumulation of too many points in a 2 (two) year period
- Failure to show proof of insurance and/or a valid drivers license at a police stop
- Negligent homicide
Sometimes all it takes is a singular offense and conviction and a driver will need to get SR22 insurance. While other drivers it may take the conviction of a multitude of offenses before that driver will need an SR22 insurance policy.
If you are unsure if a recent conviction has put you close enough to where another small conviction will require an SR22 insurance policy, please contact a Nebraska DMV Office or a Nebraska attorney to discuss your options before it is too late.

How can I get my license reinstated in Nebraska?
If you do not have have any convictions you can follow Nebraska's In-State License Renewal procedures.
If your license has been revoked, suspended, or cancelled, that period will need to be satisfied first before a license can be reinstated. Additionally you may need to have an IID installed in your vehicle, complete a driver training school, complete any drug or alcohol rehabilitation classes, and obtain an SR22 insurance policy. All of which will need to be completed prior to getting your license back.
You also may be required to take a new driving test and/or a vision test. With the complexities of some of these reinstatement procedures please contact a Nebraska DMV Office for the most up to date license reinstatements procedures.

- Reinstatement of Point Revocation
- Under the age of 21 with a 6 point accumulation
- Employment driving permit
- Two (2) point credit to your driving record (a voluntary course before the 12th point on your driving record)

What are Nebraska's minimum liability requirements?
- $25,000 coverage for bodily injury or death of any person per accident
- $50,000 coverage for all persons in any one (1) accident
- $25,000 coverage for property damage per accident.
What if I fail to keep my Nebraska SR22 insurance policy current?
Insurance companies are required by law to notify the DMV when there has been a lapse in a driver's coverage. Upon receiving this notification the DMV typically suspends a driver's license without much of a notice. If for some reason a driver gets pulled over and their insurance is found to be not up to date and their license is under a suspension; two of the most likely penalties that could occur are:
- A ticket for driving on a suspended license
- A ticket for no insurance
Please understand this is a worse case scenario, however it is a scenario that we do not want to see anyone have to live out. Furthermore you may be subject to:
- Jail time
- Your vehicle being impounded and the registration gets revoked
- Having to pay for any claims related to an accident you were involved, if it is discovered you were without insurance at the time
Simply it is just not worth the risk to be without insurance for even one day. If the penalties above are assessed against you it will make getting your license back that much harder.
What can I do to avoid a lapse in my Nebraska SR22 insurance coverage?
Pay your SR22 insurance premium as far in advance as you can. We recommended 2 months. However, this strategy will vary depending on your financial situation and the sheer cost of your SR22 insurance policy.
Please remember if you are having problems paying your SR22 insurance premium contact your insurance provider to see if they can assist you. It is easier to ask help now before it gets to a point where it is too late.
